ISLAMABAD - April 26, 2026 - Pakistan's Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has leveled explosive new accusations against India, claiming that the 2025 Pahalgam attack was a "false flag operation" and that New Delhi is actively sponsoring terrorism inside Pakistani territory.
Speaking on the one-year anniversary of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's historic address at the Pakistan Military Academy in Kakul, Tarar asserted that Pakistan had successfully dismantled India's narrative regarding the attack that killed 26 Indian tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir .
"The one-year mark of India's Pahalgam false-flag operation has proven once again that India's narrative failed miserably and proved Pakistan's stance to the world about India's involvement in terrorist activities," Tarar told state-run Radio Pakistan .
Tarar accused India of "weaponising" the tragic incident to divert international attention from domestic political failures and what he described as India's aggressive military posturing, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty .
The Minister questioned the timing of India's response to the Pahalgam attack-specifically the rapid registration of a First Information Report within 10 minutes of the incident. "Is that possible for any investigative agency to register an FIR within ten minutes of an incident?" Tarar asked, suggesting the event was pre-meditated to blame Pakistan .
While expressing sympathy for the victims of Pahalgam, Tarar contrasted Pakistan's stance with India's alleged silence on attacks within Pakistan-particularly the recent Jaffer Express hijacking in Balochistan.
"Why did our neighbor refrain from condemning the Jaffer Express incident?" Tarar questioned. "India celebrates when Pakistan faces terrorist attacks" .
In a significant escalation of rhetoric, the Pakistani government reiterated claims that it possesses "credible and irrefutable evidence" of Indian state-sponsored terrorism on its soil .
This follows a news conference by DG ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry earlier this month, who presented what he described as evidence of an Indian-operated terror network inside Pakistan. Citing the apprehension of a suspect named Abdul Majeed near Jhelum, the military's spokesperson claimed the individual was in contact with Indian Army personnel-including a "Major Sandeep Verma"-who allegedly directed him to target crowded civilian areas .
The ISPR also claimed that militant groups operating in Pakistan, referred to by the state as Fitna-al-Khwarij (a designation for TTP militants), are backed by Indian agencies .
Tarar emphasized that Pakistan remains a frontline state in the global war on terror, having lost over 90,000 lives and suffered economic losses exceeding $600 billion .
"Pakistan is a victim of terrorism as no other state has laid down 90,000 lives in the war against terror," the Minister said, urging the international community to support Islamabad's counter-terrorism efforts under the newly launched vision "Azm-e-Istehkam" .
Meanwhile, Pakistan has repeatedly accused India of failing to condemn global terrorist incidents, pointing specifically to New Delhi's silence on attacks targeting Sikh leaders in Canada and the hijacking of the Jaffer Express .
The accusations come amid heightened regional tensions, nearly one year after a brief but intense military escalation between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. The conflict, which ended with a US-brokered ceasefire in May 2025, followed India's cross-border strikes in response to the Pahalgam attack, which India had unequivocally blamed on Pakistan-based militant groups .
India has consistently rejected Pakistan's allegations. At the OIC meeting in June 2025, the Ministry of External Affairs described Pakistan's claims as "unwarranted and factually incorrect," stating that Pakistan had "turned terrorism into statecraft" .
