Islamabad, April 16, 2026 - Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf held a key meeting with Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, as both countries continue close coordination following the first round of historic US-Iran peace talks hosted in Islamabad.
The meeting took place during the Iranian delegation's visit to Pakistan earlier this month, where Ghalibaf led the high-level Iranian team for direct negotiations with the United States. Field Marshal Asim Munir personally received the Iranian delegation upon arrival at Nur Khan air base and engaged in important discussions focused on regional security, the fragile ceasefire, and Pakistan's mediation role.

Sources described the meeting as cordial and productive, with both sides reaffirming the strong brotherly ties between Pakistan and Iran. Discussions reportedly centered on ways to support de-escalation in the Middle East, ensure safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and prepare the ground for a possible second round of US-Iran talks.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has repeatedly praised the Pakistani military's role in facilitating the talks, with Field Marshal Munir playing a pivotal behind-the-scenes part in building trust between the two sides.
