"Missing Pragmatism in the Latest Iran–US Strife Peace remains elusive as renewed Iran–US tensions place the diplomatic gains of the Islamabad Accord under increasing strain. The terms of the accord were widely seen as favourable to Iran, offering it space for economic recovery, political engagement and a gradual return to regional stability. Yet short-term opportunism now risks driving a wedge through an already fragile peace process. International passage through strategic waterways is generally protected from politically motivated financial demands. Any attempt by Iran to extract maximum economic benefit from the Strait of Hormuz would therefore carry consequences far beyond the region, directly affecting energy security and global trade. The patience of Middle Eastern countries is also being tested, particularly those that have faced the consequences of Iranian attacks linked to US military facilities on their territory. Iran must recognise that pragmatism, restraint and identification of internal spoilers are essential for peace. The long-term economic and strategic benefits of stability will far outweigh any temporary gains secured through pressure or escalation. War benefits no regional state. Israel remains the principal beneficiary of prolonged confrontation, raising a legitimate question: do Iran’s present actions reduce the risk of conflict, or unintentionally strengthen those seeking to derail diplomacy? The objective must remain a final agreement that is credible, sustainable and acceptable to all concerned parties. Pakistan, as a major interlocutor, will continue to support a just and balanced settlement. At the same time, its legal, strategic and security obligations toward the wider region, particularly Saudi Arabia, require it to remain firmly committed to regional peace, stability and the protection of legitimate economic interests."
