The passing out parade at the Australian Royal Military College Duntroon in Canberra on 5 May 2026 crowned Pakistani Army Cadet Sardar Arsam Abbas PMA 152 Long Course as the Overall Best Foreign Military Cadet. The award is conferred upon the highest performing foreign cadet across all facets of training, underscoring the highest standards of professionalism, commitment and excellence demonstrated by the Pakistan Army's junior leadership. The commissioning parade was reviewed by Australian Chief of Army Lieutenant General Simon Stuart and witnessed by the Pakistani High Commissioner in Canberra, families of the graduating cadets and Australian Defence Force officials. Since 2013, Pakistan and Australia have sustained a robust military relationship; seven Pakistani officers have served as platoon commanders on the faculty of RMC, and 46 Pakistani Army cadets have graduated from this prestigious institution since 2009. This marks the 14th occasion on which a Pakistani Army Cadet has been declared the Overall Best Foreign Military Cadet, a lineage that includes Lieutenant Nasir Hussain Khalid Selhria Shaheed of Tamgha-e-Basalat, who embraced shahadat on 4 September 2020 in North Waziristan. His name is inscribed on the memorial stone at the RMC parade ground, symbolising the enduring legacy of courage, sacrifice and honour that continues to inspire future generations. In my view, Arsam Abbas's achievement transcends individual glory; it represents a milestone in sustained defense diplomacy that strengthens mutual trust and professional standards between Pakistan and Australia, reinforces opportunities for joint training and knowledge exchange, and serves as a timely reminder of the sacrifices that underpin such enduring partnerships.
