The push to embed culture in development planning also positions heritage as a strategic asset for education, identity, and diplomacy, potentially stabilizing communities amid rapid modernization and globalization. While the commitments are noteworthy, the real test will be implementation: ensuring adequate funding, clear accountability, and seamless coordination between federal and provincial authorities; guaranteeing representation for minority and marginalized communities; and leveraging digitization and public-private partnerships to scale impact. My view is that the government’s cultural agenda aligns with global development norms and can yield meaningful benefits if accompanied by transparent governance, participatory planning, and measurable outcomes. If executed well, this approach could strengthen national unity, empower artisans, and propel Pakistan onto the regional stage as a leader in heritage preservation and creative innovation.
