ISLAMABAD - Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has congratulated Spain on its victory in the FIFA World Cup 2026 and expressed support for Palestine in a social media post following the final .

In a post on X, the defence minister wrote: "Millions of hands were raised in prayer all over the world for Spain's victory. Viva España, Viva Palestine" . The message linked Spain's victory with Pakistan's longstanding diplomatic position on the Palestinian cause .

Spain defeated defending champions Argentina 1-0 after extra time at the New Jersey Stadium in New York to lift the trophy, securing the country's second men's World Cup title, its first in 16 years .

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also congratulated Spain on its "well-deserved victory," praising the team for displaying exceptional skill, unity, discipline, and teamwork throughout the tournament . He also commended President Donald Trump and the governments of the United States, Mexico, and Canada for successfully hosting the historic tournament .
