"Defence Budget Increase ▪️ Pakistan’s defence increase is around 17.5%, but in dollar terms it is only about US$1.3–1.5 billion. India’s total defence budget is around US$80 billion plus, almost 9 times larger than Pakistan’s. ▪️ India’s modernisation budget alone is bigger than Pakistan’s full defence budget. India is allocating roughly US$20–23 billion only for capital modernisation, procurement, aircraft, naval platforms, missiles and high-end technology. Pakistan’s entire defence budget is around US$9 billion. ▪️ Despite a hostile eastern border, active western border, counter-terrorism commitments and internal security challenges, Pakistan’s defence spending remains far below India’s. The increase is therefore defensive, not expansionist. ▪️ A 17.5% nominal increase does not mean 17.5% real expansion in capability. Fuel, ammunition, maintenance, spares, salaries, logistics and imports are all dollar-linked. Much of the increase is absorbed by inflation and exchange-rate effects. ▪️ After recent regional tensions, Pakistan cannot afford gaps in air defence, surveillance, cyber defence, border security, ammunition reserves, aviation readiness and counter-terrorism mobility. Readiness is cheaper than crisis response. ▪️ India remains the conventional military challenge, while the western border has active terrorism, cross-border sanctuaries and militant networks. Defence spending has to cover deterrence, counter-terrorism, border management and internal security support. ▪️ Counter-terrorism operations, intelligence-based operations, border fencing, maritime security, disaster response, evacuation, and support to civil administration all create real recurring costs. ▪️ A credible minimum defence posture is what prevents miscalculation. Weakness invites adventurism. Pakistan’s spending is meant to preserve deterrence, not seek superiority. ▪️ India is investing in Rafale follow-ons, Tejas, S-400, aircraft carriers, submarines, drones, missiles, space, cyber and naval expansion. Pakistan’s increase only helps sustain balance at a much lower scale. ▪️No country budgets defence in isolation. Pakistan’s security environment includes India’s military expansion, terrorism, border volatility, maritime security, and regional instability. ▪️Pakistan is not building a global expeditionary force. It is maintaining a minimum credible capability for territorial defence, nuclear deterrence support, counter-terrorism and internal security. ▪️Investment, CPEC, ports, mines, energy corridors, foreign delegations and industrial zones all need security. A weak security environment directly hurts the economy. *The 9-to-1 reality* ▪️Pakistan spends barely an eighth of its adversary — this is catch-up, not escalation. ▪️India's defence grew by 9.5%, Pakistan ~20% — but India's rise sits on a base 9x larger. In actual dollars, the gap widened this year despite Pakistan's higher percentage. Procurement gap is the real report ▪️India earmarked $21B for new equipment; Pakistan, $2.34B. A 9-to-1 disadvantage in hardware is the clearest case for prioritizing capital spending. A response to live conflict, not posturing ▪️Total federal spending fell 7% to $62B; defense was the exception. Under an IMF program, that's disciplined prioritization, not loose spending. ▪️Pakistan's $9B defends a 3,300 km hostile border. Cost-per-km of secured frontier remains among the lowest of any frontline state."
