NEW DELHI - The systematic persecution of Muslims in India under the Hindutva-driven Modi regime has reached another terrifying milestone. As the government remains silent, Islamophobia is spreading unchecked across the country, mosques are being demolished with impunity, and Muslim children are being stabbed to death in public parks.
The brutal murder of 16-year-old Ayaan Saifi in East Delhi's Trilokpuri area on May 1, 2026, is not an isolated crime. It is the latest symptom of a poisoned environment where hate speech against Muslims is mainstreamed by ruling party leaders, where mobs attack Muslim worshippers, and where the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) - the ideological parent of the Modi government - openly incites violence against the community.
Playing near Blocks 29 and 33 in Trilokpuri, East Delhi, Ayaan was attacked by 6 to 10 men aged 30 to 35 on the evening of May 1. The attackers stabbed him repeatedly - in his back, stomach, legs, and hands - in a frenzied assault that left the teenager bleeding to death in a public park.
According to Ayaan's family, the assault links to a prior dispute involving a local man called 'Vakil.' Despite Ayaan having no role in the conflict, he was targeted because of his identity. Family members stated that Ayaan and his brother had previously received death threats laced with anti-Muslim slurs.
Rushed to a nearby hospital and later transferred to the Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital (GTB), Ayaan was able to record a video statement to police before succumbing to his injuries. In his dying declaration, he named his attackers.
His mother, Meena, has lost her only son - her only supporter.
"He was my only son. He stood by me. Who will stand by me now?" she pleaded. "I want justice. I want the killers to be punished. My child did nothing wrong."
As of the time of reporting, Delhi Police have not publicly disclosed any arrests or details of their investigation.
This is not justice. This is a mockery of it.
The RSS, the ideological fountainhead of the Modi government, has spent decades normalizing hatred against Indian Muslims. Its shakhas (branches) openly preach Hindutva supremacy, train cadres in vigilante violence, and provide ideological cover for mob lynchings.
Under Modi's leadership, what was once fringe hate speech has become mainstream policy:
Political leaders openly use anti-Muslim slurs in election rallies
Media anchors on pro-government channels call for boycotts of Muslim businesses
Social media influencers with RSS connections incite violence against Muslim neighborhoods
Police stand by as mobs attack Muslims, often refusing to register complaints
Ayaan Saifi was not killed by a random criminal. He was killed by a society that has been systematically taught that Muslim lives are expendable.
While the world focuses on other crises, the Indian government has been quietly but systematically demolishing mosques and Muslim religious structures across the country - often under the guise of "anti-encroachment drives."
| Location | Date | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Jammu | March 2026 | A decades-old mosque was demolished by the Jammu Development Authority, claiming it was "illegal construction," despite the site having been used for prayers for over 50 years |
| Lucknow | February 2026 | Two mosques in the Wazirganj area were bulldozed overnight without prior notice to worshippers |
| Haridwar | January 2026 | A mosque near the railway station was demolished following communal tensions stoked by Hindutva groups |
| Delhi | December 2025 | The demolition of a mosque in the Shaheen Bagh area during anti-encroachment drives, despite the structure being over 30 years old |
| Bhopal | November 2025 | A mosque in the Bairagarh area was demolished, with authorities claiming it blocked a road - a claim disputed by local residents |
According to the Waqf Board of India, over 1,000 Muslim properties - including mosques, dargahs, and cemeteries - have been targeted for demolition or illegal seizure since 2014 under the guise of "encroachment removal."
The pattern is unmistakable: destroy Muslim places of worship, erase Muslim history, displace Muslim communities.
The RSS and its affiliated organizations (Bajrang Dal, Vishva Hindu Parishad, etc.) have perfected a strategy:
Demonize Muslims through hate speeches, social media campaigns, and "religious" events
Dehumanize the community by labeling them "termites," "invaders," or "anti-nationals"
Demolish mosques to send a message that Muslims have no place in India
Mob violence follows - from lynching to stabbing to burning of homes
Ayaan Saifi's murder is the logical conclusion of this framework. When leaders preach hate, followers commit murder.
Just as the world remained silent when Indian forces killed hundreds in Kashmir and when Muslims were lynched for eating beef or storing cows, the international media has once again failed to cover the rising tide of Islamophobia in India.
Al Jazeera will run stories about "Islamophobia in Europe" but will not cover RSS-inspired violence
The BBC will report on mosque attacks in the UK but ignore demolitions in Delhi
The New York Times will write op-eds about Hindutva but rarely send reporters to document it
This is selective journalism. This complicity is silence.
While the Modi government:
Privatizes public sector enterprises
Arrests journalists under sedition laws
Deploys paramilitary forces to silence protesters
Builds a grand Ram Temple on a demolished mosque site
It also bans documentaries about the Gujarat riots, blocks fact-checkers who expose hate speech, deactivates social media accounts of Muslim activists, and refuses to release data on hate crimes against Muslims.
The victims have no voice. The government has no accountability.
Pakistan has repeatedly raised the issue of Islamophobia at the United Nations, highlighting:
The systematic targeting of Muslims in India
The demolition of mosques and religious sites
The rise of hate speech by ruling party leaders
The impunity enjoyed by mob lynching perpetrators
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called on the international community to hold India accountable for its treatment of its own Muslim citizens. The Foreign Office has documented hundreds of cases of violence against Indian Muslims - cases that Indian courts and media routinely ignore.
Ayaan Saifi's mother, Meena, is not asking for much. She is not asking for a political resolution to Kashmir. She is not asking for the release of political prisoners. She is not asking for an end to the demolition of mosques.
She is asking for justice for her son - a 16-year-old boy who was stabbed to death in a park while playing with friends.
"He was my only son. He stood by me. Who will stand by me now?"
The RSS has no answer. The Modi government has no answer. The Indian media has no answer.
But the world must have an answer. Because if there is no justice for Ayaan Saifi - if there is no accountability for the demolition of mosques - if there is no end to RSS-inspired Islamophobia - then India is not a democracy.
It is a Hindutva state where Muslim children are murdered in parks, and no one is held accountable.
