On 31 May, a group identified as FAH attempted to breach the perimeter of Gwadar University campus at Pishukan when the facility was sparsely populated with labourers. Local police security on site reacted promptly, repelling the initial intrusion and forcing the attackers to flee. Following the incident, information led to the mobilization of the Quick Reaction Force (QRF) of the Frontier Corps (FC), which arrived to secure the area and deter any follow-on attack. The terrorists fled upon seeing FC approaching. This episode underscores a troubling pattern: FAH targeting civilians, educational institutions, and development sites in Balochistan to sow fear and disrupt progress, reportedly acting under external influence. In a broader sense, the attack exposes vulnerabilities around soft targets and highlights the need for layered security, rapid response capabilities, and enhanced intelligence-sharing among security agencies. The event should galvanize policymakers, security forces, and local communities to bolster protections for students, staff, and infrastructure so that education can continue to be a safe space for learning and growth. In my view, such violence is reprehensible and serves no legitimate purpose; it must be unequivocally condemned. Counter-terrorism efforts must be paired with addressing underlying grievances and promoting inclusive development to reduce the appeal of extremist violence. A sustainable approach requires deterrence, community engagement, and resilience-building to prevent future breaches and protect the region’s educational and developmental progress.
